- Please note that Resolution #16 is the results of three different proposals that were submitted by members of the Concerned Moravians. This resolution is titled “American Moravian Church of the Southern Province affirms that the Bible is Essential”. There has been a movement by ministers, seminary leaders and the new Moravian “Catechism Book” stating that the Bible is neither “essential or non-essential”. This new Catechism Book was distributed in all Moravian Churches and some have refused to accept this new teaching. Please make sure that your fellow Moravians know about this attempt to state that the Bible is NOT essential by leadership in the Moravian Church. After asking several ministers and past president of the PEC if the Bible was essential and they said “NO”, we felt it was important that this be addressed at the 2022 Synod. It was passed with 95% of delegates agreeing to this resolution.
- Several other Proposals were submitted to the 2022 Synod from the Concerned Moravians, including a proposal to rescind Resolution #14 from the 2018 Southern Province Synod which allows same-sex marriage, and a proposal that would require the Moravian Southern Province to be in compliance with the Church Order of the Unitas Fratrum (COUF), but these were not brought out of committee to the floor for a vote.
